August 24th will mark the first day that new marijuana regulations in Canada will come into play. These regulations are an extension of the existing medical marijuana system that has been in existence since the former Conservative government held power.

A federal judge determined the current scenario to be unconstitutional. With that decision earlier this year, Trudeau and his task force deemed it appropriate for patients across the great white north to grow their own, if they so choose, starting tomorrow.

In light of the upcoming loosening of the cannabis reigns, a weekly Green Market is adding a public “potluck” at Trinity Bellwoods Park. The event’s organizers intend to keep pushing the government into the most liberal scenario possible when it comes to cannabis access for all Canadians.

“This is the very first time it’s a potluck.  Before it was a farmer’s market style that was a private event that you had to be in the know about, but this is the first event that we’re doing in public where people can come and trade their own products,” says Lisa Campbell, one of the creators.

“The reason that we are doing it tomorrow is the new [cannabis]regulations are coming out.”  While a patient’s ability to grow their own is a “huge win,” Lisa sees wide gaps in the program regarding limitations on how much patients can grow, and the total lack of access to edibles products.

“[At the potluck] patients that make their own tinctures and baked goods are able to bring them and meet people who also make their own products and trade with them.” Many of the products on hand including topicals and other creams, oils, edibles, and all other goodies created from the world’s most versatile crop will be available at the Green Market in addition to many of Toronto’s trusted dispensaries.
