Currently locked in a contentious recount after winning on election night, Gov. Paul LePage believes state lawmakers should eliminate Maine’s medical marijuana program if Question 1 ultimately wins, according to WGME.
“If you’ve got recreational marijuana, it’s over the counter. Why do we need medical marijuana?”
Using his weekly talk show on WGAN as a soapbox to preach, Gov. LePage argued Maine’s medical marijuana program would soon be obsolete, with over-the-counter marijuana being available at recreational dispensaries.
A hypocrite by nature, Governor LePage lead the anti-legalization charge against Maine’s Question 1 by unleashing a video laced with hateful ignorance, just days before the November 8th election. Describing marijuana as a “deadly” substance that shares a direct correlation to heroin addiction, he strongly encouraged his constituents to reject the ballot measure to legalize recreational cannabis.
Now, calling for an end to the state’s medical marijuana program during his weekly rant on WGAN, Gov. LePage apparently hopes to generate additional revenue while creating mayhem for the state’s recreational and medicinal factions.
Per the president of Legalize Maine, Paul McCarrie, “to get rid of it wholesale could really harm not only hundreds of Maine businesses but thousands of Maine patients with severe conditions.”
Not that their “harm” is any concern for Maine’s hypocrite-in-chief.
