Looking to help California take that quantum leap into the 21st century, on Monday Sanders gave his unequivocal support for legalizing marijuana in the Golden State, during a speech in East LA.

“I think it makes sense to legalize marijuana at this particular point,” Sanders, informed potential voters. “So if I were here in your state, I would vote yes on that issue.”

And there’s a good chance they will.

At the beginning of 2016, one poll showed that 60% of California’s voters would likely cast their ballot on Election Day to legalize marijuana consumption; joining Alaska, Colorado, Oregon, and Washington in their progressive legalization of recreational pot use.

As California’s fraternal police groups fight to maintain marijuana’s ugly prohibition and long abandoned correctional facilities consider converting to marijuana cultivation; the Bern understands that legalized marijuana in California could protect millions of innocent citizens from unjust incarceration and generate approximately $1 billion in new revenue annually for the state’s struggling economy.

“I have introduced legislation and will implement as president, taking marijuana out of the federal controlled substance act. Now all you know, all you know, that the legalization of marijuana, that decision is made on the statewide level. You know that four states plus D.C. have already made that decision. You all know there’s going to be a ballot item on in California in November. And I think it makes sense to legalize marijuana at this particular point. So if I were here in your state, I would vote yes on that issue.”

Righteous, petulant, and pushing on, Sanders’ refusal to suspend his campaign is considered by some an effort to steer the Dems away from perpetuating the antiquated drug war tactics of our past. As for Clinton, her plans for dealing with the cannabis issue calls for relaxing federal laws on marijuana use, while simultaneously maintaining them.
